Call 440-376-7041 to register. More class listings at www.SecurelyAnchored.com.

Art Is Therapeutic! New Ways of Seeing the World

Based on Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. According to Betty Edwards, the exercises in her book may be used “to open access by conscious volition to the right side of the brain in order to… see things in a different way … you will delve deeply into a part of your mind too often obscured by the endless details of daily life. … you will develop your ability to perceive things freshly in their totality, to see underlying patterns and possibilities for new combinations. Creative solutions to problems, whether personal or professional, will be accessible through new modes of thinking and new ways of using the power of your whole brain. … (See) things as they really are, in all their awesome, fascinating complexity”.

New Ways of Seeing the World teaches an effortless process to facilitate a harmonizing balance between mind and body. Lecture: slide show, motivational talk, explanation of the process, why it works, benefits. Experiential: do the exercises, feel the results. Handouts for additional exercises.

Facilitated by Kristen S. Boyesen, Life Learning & Creativity Coach. Member Mind-Body-Spirit Connection Speakers Bureau, Cleveland Coach Federation, Eldercare Professionals of Ohio and COSE. Director of Out-of-the-Box Thinking for Imagination Arts.

Wednesday, April 30: Talk and Beginning exercises
Wednesday, May 7: Discussion, New exercises
Wednesday, May 14: Additional exercises, Wrap-up.
7:00 to 8:30 PM

Imagination Arts™ for Wellness, Rehabilitation, and Fun

With Bedford artist, motivational speaker, and art teacher Kristen S. Boyesen

A workshop to relieve stress, reduce pain, exercise the brain and activate intuition. Based on the book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards, the exercises, developed by Boyesen especially for “non-artists”, ease access to right-brain global thinking, timelessness, “aha” moments and creative thinking for life enrichment through heightened awareness and perceptions. Interesting objects are used for observation and meditation, and, without looking at the paper, participants do Recorded Eye Movement™ drawings. After the observational/recording period, the drawing is a fun surprise! No art experience needed. Materials are provided.

“This exercise was unlike any other. I’ve never really thought of something so simple being so relaxing.” (Niki, Burning River Fest, 2007, Cleveland)

“I get relief from the severe pain while doing art, my memory... is improving, and (my) depression ... is lifting.” …“My kids have ADHD. When I see they are on a path to losing control, we do the exercises, and they calm down.” (Dennis, stroke and broken neck survivor doing art and Imagination Arts™ with Kristen since 02/02/05.

Imagination Arts in North Olmstead:

Need a Break From Stress?

Want to Awaken Creativity?

Imagination Arts participants learn to achieve a meditative state through Recorded Eye Movement™ exercises, for access to the non-linear right-brain. In this global thinking part of the brain, one enters a state of calm, opens awareness, and sets the stage for creating “aha” moments. There will also be a slide presentation, music movement, group discussion, and other group activities.

Testimonial:
I have been studying art, meditation and intuition for many years.

However, all that has been dramatically advanced once I began to study with Kristen Boyesen. Her art class is far more than drawing lessons. I am learning about life, paying attention to my energy field, and experiencing sheer joy just being around her! Her passion for life and art are wonderfully contagious! I heartily recommend Imagination Arts to anyone who wants to gain access to their dormant creativity and joy.

Imagination Arts Workshops. What are they?

Imagination Arts interactive programs use games of observation to access the right side of the brain. Drawings are created without looking at the paper. The activity of drawing, using proven learn-to-draw techniques, allows the left side of the brain rest and paves the way for the right side of the brain to use its many talents. Right-brain activity is associated with inner peace, intuitive thinking and bonding.

  • All artists know the peace and contentment that they experience while creating art.
  • Imagination Arts games and activities, set to music, allow the non-artist to experience the same beneficial effects of such right-brain activity, without the pressure of creating an artwork.

  • A seismograph records the process of earth movement.
  • Imagination Arts transfers eye movement to muscle movement.

  • A puddle of water is the result of the process of melting an ice cube. The shape of the puddle is inconsequential.
  • Imagination Arts exercises create a process for activating the right side of the brain. The lines drawn on paper are inconsequential.

  • "Aha" moments are the result of the right side of the brain figuring things out when you least expect it.
  • Imagination Arts can help trigger "aha" moments without having to wait for chance to allow it to happen.

  • Thinking outside of the box involves expanding one's thoughts beyond the familiar.
  • Imagination Arts activates the process for out-of-the-box thinking.

  • Magicians have certain tricks of the trade that are seldom revealed to the public.
  • Imagination Arts reveals the tricks used by artists to create art, and presents them as a way to relax, activate intuition, and create group bonding.

Expanding Ever Outward

The planning for Shadybrook's April retreat is progressing, and an interesting variety of mini workshops will be presented, including Imagination Arts.

Conversations with people I have recently met in the business and healthcare arenas have increased my excitement (if that is possible) about presenting this program in all areas: corporate, wellness, education, rehabilitation and entertainment. Their reactions to the concept and purpose of Imagination Arts are all positive.
